We've previously discussed the fantastic Hostess and Sales Rep program on the blog, highlighting how it presents an excellent chance to earn additional income or receive discounts on the most adorable children's attire!

If you've been wanting a fun and easy way to supplement your income in 2024, our affiliate program is the perfect choice. Plus, you'll find our community of reps to be incredibly supportive and encouraging.

In the following Q&A, we feature one of our amazing hostesses, Jennifer Stephens. Dive into her experiences and gain firsthand insights into the program, learning directly from one of our most successful participants!

What inspired you to become a rep/hostess for Shrimp and Grits Kids, and how did you begin your journey with the company?

Originally I loved the idea of earning some free clothes for my kids. Who doesn't love free clothes?!

Can you describe your role as a rep/hostess? What are your primary responsibilities and day-to-day activities?

I like to think of myself as the go-to brand expert for my customers. I answer questions about the products and help with sizing, coordinating outfits for siblings, etc. As a Rep I help my team of hostesses with these things for their customers as well.

What is it like to organize and host a trunk show for Shrimp and Grits Kids? Can you walk us through the process and your approach to hosting a successful event?

My goal is to get everyone excited about the newest release and help everyone learn about Shrimp and Grits Kids as a brand. I also LOVE giveaways so I try and incorporate a few into my trunk shows whether the show is virtual or in person.

How do you engage and connect with customers during trunk shows or through social media?

I'm very active in my private Facebook group as well as Instagram. I'm always posting sneak peeks, new releases and sales info and I also share what I'm loving for my own kids.

What strategies do you find most effective for promoting the clothing?

I've found that sharing personal pictures of my children in Shrimp and Grits Kids outfits is very effective. Real life try-ons also help other moms figure out sizing for their own kids.

What kind of training and support does Shrimp and Grits Kids provide to help you succeed?

You can tell that SGK really thinks about ways to support their affiliates. The graphics, info, and transparency they provide for us is great. The Rep Facebook group is great to crowd source info too and most everyone is willing to share and help so that community feel is wonderful.

What is your favorite part about being a rep/hostess for Shrimp and Grits Kids?

Helping others choose outfits for their family's special moments whether that's the first day of school, vacation, family pictures or just everyday play.

Is there a particular moment or success story that stands out to you?

I think the first time a customer uses your affiliate link for their purchase and you see your commission come through, that is really exciting. I remember thinking, "Okay! This is easier than I thought!"

What challenges have you encountered in your role, and how have you overcome them?

Virtual/social media selling can be a challenge sometimes and you have to play the algorithm game a little to get your content seen. I've done a lot of trial and error to see what works and what doesn't.

Do you have any tips for new reps/hostesses facing similar challenges?

Jump in with both feet and get excited! For hostesses, don't be afraid to ask your Rep for support. That's what we are here for.

Do you have a personal favorite item or collection from Shrimp and Grits Kids?

Wow. This is hard question. One of my very favorites is the Shem Creek Crab Collection from way back but another all time favorite is Kinsale plaid (blue/green) from Fall 2020.

How do you build and maintain relationships with your customers?

I let my customers know they can always reach out to me with questions or problems. As a small business owner customer service has always been very important to me. I always try to go above and beyond for my customers by placing orders for them if they aren't available at release time, contacting customer service for them if there is a problem with their order, or even just saying thank you for using my link to order.

Can you share an example of how these relationships have contributed to your success?

I had a customer tell me once that when she thought of Shrimp and Grits Kids, she thought of me. That made me feel like the effort I was putting in was worth it.

How do you gather and relay customer feedback to the company?

I usually post or comment in the hostess/rep Facebook group with feedback from customers.

Can you share an instance where customer feedback led to changes or improvements?

A big thing customers were asking for after last Summer was to have two-piece rashguard suits and SGK took that feedback and now we have new swim styles coming for Spring '24.

What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a rep or hostess for Shrimp and Grits Kids?

For hostesses in particular, it's a great way to offset costs as you fill your kids' closets with cute clothes. It's not a huge time commitment and is actually easy to be successful.

How do you collaborate with other reps/hostesses, and how does being part of this community enhance your experience?

If I want to know something I just ask and I try to share my wins so that others can benefit as well. Life gives to the givers, you know?
