We're excited to kick off our new "SGK Influencer Spotlight" series, where we get to know some of the wonderful moms who love Shrimp and Grits Kids Clothing as much as we do!
These are some inspiringΒ real women juggling kids, careers, and everything in between.Β We thought it'd be fun to sit down with these busy moms and chat about life, style, and what draws them to Shrimp and Grits Kids for their little ones. So grab a cup of coffee (or whatever keeps you going) and join us as we dive into these conversations.
First up in our spotlight series is Laura Godfrey, a mom of four with a knack for making everyday moments look effortlessly stylish.
Meet Laura Godfrey!
Laura Godfrey, a mom of four girls aged 12, 10, 6, and 2, has been married to her high school sweetheart, Matt, for 16 years. Her journey into the influencing world began unexpectedly,Β after dealing with her husband's chronic illness.
"After we had been married for a while and had two small children, he had such a bad flare-up that we wondered if he'd be able to go back to work," Laura recalls.
Laura's first outfit pic? Snapped on a bridge outside the hospital where her husband was receiving treatment. Talk about turning lemons into lemonade!Β Her goal was to have a creative outlet, be an encouragement to other women, and try to help relieve some of the financial burdenΒ her husband was feeling.
Juggling Motherhood and Influencing
Balancing family life with her influencing career is no easy feat for Laura. "Oh, it's so easy! LOL. Kidding," she jokes. Her strategy? Keeping her priorities straight.
"I put Jesus first, Matt next, then my girls, and everything else follows," Laura explains. She acknowledges that her job can be all-consuming if she lets it, so she's learned to set boundaries. "I've had to learn to say no for the sake of balance and peace."
To maintain this balance, Laura follows a few key principles:
- Avoiding mindless scrolling
- Creating more content than she consumes
- Putting her phone away during family time
"I don't always get the balance right," she says, "but I do try to always lean into the tension of keeping the main thing the main thing."
Family Time and Traditions
The Godfrey family loves going for hikes on weekends, having movie nights, and playing games. One of their favorite holiday traditions is decorating the Christmas tree. Laura shares, "I always do a little spread of snacky foods just like my mom did when I was little. It's very chaotic and crazy but it's always so so fun!"
Love for Shrimp and Grits Kids
Laura is a big fan of Shrimp and Grits Kids clothing. She loves the quality of the clothes, which last well enough to be passed down from girl to girl. The unique prints also catch her eye: "You can tell that so much thought and intention has gone into their creation."
Her favorite SGK items are "Absolutely anything with a Peter Pan collar. I've had initials embroidered on them and it's just the most precious thing!"
Styling Tips for Family Photos
Laura's approach to family photoshoot styling is all about coordinating without being too matchy-matchy. "I love layering different textures and colors so we don't look too matchy," she explains.
Her strategy? "This involves usually finding one thing that I LOVE and then building everyone else's looks around that." This approach allows each family member's personality to shine while still creating a cohesive look.
A Surprising Fact About Laura
Despite her public presence as an influencer, Laura reveals a surprising fact about herself: "I'm a major introvert. I love people but too much peopling absolutely wears me out. I love being by myself!"
